Here’s A Quick Story.
I was talking to a friend of mine the other day, and we were discussing the stress we felt while we were working. I’m retired now, and my work-related stress is gone. My friend still has a good ten years to go, and feels stressed out every day.
He has a position of responsibility in law enforcement, and while he is extremely good at what he does, his work gives him a tremendous amount of stress. He told me that he hated to get up in the morning because he knew he had to go to work.
He’s learned to cope, so he’s not a basket case. He does, however, have a different dream for his life than what he’s doing now.
I asked him what he really wanted to do, and he told me that he wanted to open his own shop. I won’t say what kind of shop he wants to open, because it doesn’t really matter. I also want to protect his identity in case a friend of his reads this post. I didn’t ask his permission to use his story, so I’ve intentionally kept it vague.
What matters is that he can’t find a way to come up with what it would take financially to quit his job and follow his dream.
It Got Me Thinking Later.
Most of us are in the same boat. Like the people in the picture below. Like them, we don’t seem to be very happy with our lot in life. We find ourselves in a field that we don’t really want to be in, but we’re there because that’s what the circumstances brought us.
You might be someone who is already working in their dream job. This post really isn’t going to help you much.
But, if you’re one of us who find ourselves going to work every day in a job that we don’t really enjoy, or maybe even dislike, just because we need the paycheck and haven’t found a better way, then please continue reading.
It wasn’t until I retired that I really began looking for a way to get out of the financial rut I’ve been in.
Don’t’ get me wrong, I have been a dreamer and have looked at having a business of my own many times in my life, but like my friend, the cost of starting a business always stopped me at the dreamer stage.
Then one day I was looking for ways to use my writing skills to make money online. I’ve always been told that I’m a good writer, so I thought, “Why not see what’s available online?”
I’d heard about copywriting. I saw an ad for it and decided to check it out.
The platform I was looking at would teach a person how to become a copywriter, but had a lot of upsells. Since I had never done copywriting, where you write advertising copy for other businesses, I decided I’d better take a look at a couple of reviews on the platform I was considering.
One of the reviewers made the point that if I was going to write online, why not write for myself instead of for others. I would earn a fee for writing for others, but I would get paid more writing for myself.
I wasn’t sure how to do that at the time.
The reviewer provided a link to Wealthy Affiliate, a website I’d never heard of before.
Since I was in “checking things out” mode, I clicked on the link and looked around at what Wealthy Affiliate had to offer.
Another thing I hadn’t heard of before was affiliate marketing. I needed to find out what kind of business model that was too. What I learned was that affiliate marketing is a business where you help people find the products that they are looking for, and when the buy, you, the affiliate, are paid a commission.
Pretty simple business model, with quite a few advantages.
In the end I decided to sign up for Wealthy Affiliate. Why’d I do that? The main reason was that I could sign up and start for free. That really was the deciding factor for me. I was at a point in my life where I was ready to give something new a try.
I figured that since it was free to join, I could immerse myself in the experience and if I didn’t like it, or if it looked like a scam, I could just quit. No loss, no foul.
That was two years ago, and I’m still a member of WA. I long ago moved from the free Starter Program to the Premium (paid) program.
The training was just too good to pass up.
And remember when I mentioned I wanted to see what affiliate marketing was all about? Wealthy Affiliate has a great affiliate program and they pay solid commissions to those who bring in new members, after they have upgraded to Premium.
Wealthy Affiliate doesn’t pay commission on signing up people for free, and everyone signs up for free. So, where’s the money come from? The commissions come when people upgrade to premium.
The upgrade rate is about 12%. 12 out of every 100 sign-ups decide to upgrade.
That may seem like a low number, but a lot of people are just looking around and decide it’s not for them.
So, if it’s free to join and offers really good training, why don’t more people upgrade?
I think it’s because they discover that they are starting a legitimate business, not signing up for a get-rich-quick scheme.
Wealthy Affiliate Is NOT a Get-Rich-Quick Scheme
Depending on how much work you are willing to invest is starting an online business, it usually takes anywhere from six months to a couple of years to see significant financial progress, and most people quit early rather than work for success.
Let’s face it, we live in a “Want It Now!” society. We’re programmed from an early age to try something, and when we don’t see quick results, we move on to something else.
It’s a rare individual who will stick it out until they win, but they are the ones who become wealthy.
Affiliate marketing online is a numbers game. It takes a while for your new website to become a site that’s trusted by the search engines enough that you begin to rank on the first page of search results, with the more established sites, and begin to get more and more traffic.
Traffic to your sit is the life blood of your business. As you become more established, you will see more and more visitors to your site and some of those visitors will take advantage of the products you offer and make a purchase.
This post isn’t the place to go into the details of search engine optimization, social media marketing, and the other tricks and techniques that will help you draw traffic to your website.
All that is found in Wealthy Affiliate’s training.
My guarantee to you is that if you decide to become an affiliate marketer, and learn the ropes and apply what you learn, you WILL succeed and become financially independent, whether it’s with Wealthy Affiliate or some other training program.
The training works. If you have the desire and the drive, you can reach your financial dreams.
So, What Do You Get If You Sign Up For Free?
Along with the 10 free lessons listed above, you also get 2 free websites to get you started.
Don’t you agree that you get quite a bit for your non-monitary investment? All you invest is some of your time.
Let me add a disclosure here. The FTC requires affiliate marketers to notify readers that if they click on an affiliate link in a post and end up purchasing a product, the affiliate will be paid a commission.
That’s how it works, and that’s why I have this website and this blog. I’m an affiliate marketer and one of the products I promote is membership in Wealthy Affiliate.
So, when you sign up, I earn nothing, because you sign up for free. If, after you’ve learned a thing or two, you decide to upgrade to premium, THEN I earn a commission.
There’s no time frame for upgrading. You can stay in the free program for as long as you like. There are bonuses for upgrading early, such as a discount for your first month, and there are different ways you can upgrade. The chart below shows what you can do:
If my post has tweaked your interest, I welcome you to the free Starter Program at Wealthy Affiliate. You have nothing to lose. If you’re serious, and it’s something you decide to pursue, then give yourself a couple of years to become successful.
After all, it takes that long or longer for about any business to start making a profit.
Thanks for reading my post. Feel free to leave me a comment if you have a question or if you’d like to say something. I’ll respond.
