Work From Home – Medical Transcriptionist

Work from home

This is the second rated work from home opportunity listed on the Bankrate website. I got the information here in this post from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, found here.

So, What’s a Medical Transcriptionist?

A Medical transcriptionist (MT), also called a Healthcare Documentation Specialist in the time-honored tradition of making jobs sound important, is someone who converts voice recordings from doctors and other health care professionals to written form, usually as reports.

An MT can also review and edit medical documents that were created using speech recognition software or technology.

It’s a good job that works well as a work at home opportunity, although some medical transcriptionists work for a medical facility in-house.

MTs work in the following areas:

  • Hospital
  • Doctor’s offices
  • Transcription Service Companies
  • Freelance

Specialized Training is Necessary

As with any job, training is a must.  There are numerous online courses available. I don’t know what the specific training requirements are, but if you want to do this work, I’m sure you will find out as you research online schools.

The median annual wage for a medical transcriptionist is $35,720 per year.

The job outlook for 2017-2026 is for a 3% decline in employment opportunities due to improved technology and increased healthcare service outsourcing within the medical industry.

I took a different path.

Do you want to have your own business?  I always wanted to have my own business.  I guess being a freelance medical transcriptionist is having your own business, but to me it’s pretty restrictive.  I wanted to have an online business, and I wanted to have a business that would bring in income even when I wasn’t actively working.

I chose affiliate marketing, using a blog to attract customers to my website.  Affiliate marketing is a type of business where you don’t have to carry inventory.  You enter into an agreement with any number of different companies to market their products in return for a commission.

A blog lets me make regular input on a variety of topics related to online success, or any other subject that might attract people to my site, where I advertise products for companies that I have an affiliate agreement with and that are available to the consumer.

Again, Specialized Training is Necessary.

There are several different training platforms available to get trained in affiliate marketing.  The best one on the web, in my opinion, is Wealthy Affiliate.

  • You can start for free
  • The first 10 lessions (Starter Level) are free
  • You get 2 free professional websites
  • You never have to upgrade to Premium if you don’t want to
  • If you do want to, A whole new world of training and opportunity open up for you, for $49/month
  • You can pay annually instead of monthly, and receive a discount
  • As a premium member, you can have up to 25 websites at no extra cost
  • Instead of one level of training, you have 6 levels
  • You belong to a community of like-minded professionals who are ready and willing to help if needed

That’s just a partial list.

Wealthy Affiliate is NOT a Get Rich Quick Scheme

You can get rich, but as with any legitimate business, time and work are required to be successful.  But if you put in the time, and do the work, and follow the training, you WILL be successful and make money in your business.

There are several reviews of Wealthy Affiliate online.  You can read mine here.  I think I have a little different perspective in my review than other people.  I tell you how I got here.

So, bottom line, if you want to work from home, there are many different paths available to you. The first thing you need to do is GET STARTED!  Don’t put it off, you are putting yourself behind the power curve if you do.  START TODAY!

Please feel free to make a comment below.  I’d like to have your opinion of my post.  I’ll reply if appropriate.

Thanks.  I’m Grant.
